Laboratory Technical Supervisor

We are looking for a Technical Supervisor to oversee the technical and scientific operations of a world-class laboratory focused on cutting edge technology. The ideal candidate for this position has a minimum of two years of supervisory experience, has helped establish new laboratory processes, and meets the CLIA and state of California requirements for supervising a high complexity laboratory. He or she will manage the technical aspects of all CLIA certified lab work, ensuring that the laboratory meets state and federal guidelines and achieves excellence in quality at every level.

Responsibilities


  • Oversee laboratory personnel, procedures, and technical and scientific operations.
  • Work closely with Lab Director to select appropriate test methodology for clinical use of test results.
  • Ensure verification of test procedures performed and establish laboratory’s test performance characteristics.
  • Oversee laboratory’s enrollment and successful participation in proficiency testing programs, including testing samples, providing results, and taking any needed corrective action in accordance with CLIA requirements.
  • Develop and regularly review quality control and quality assessment activities. Identify and correct any problems in a timely manner consistent with regulatory guidelines
  • Establish parameters of acceptable analytic performance and ensure that these standards are maintained throughout the entire testing process.
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure that remedial actions are taken when needed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of laboratory results.
  • Evaluate and ensure competency, training, and performance of laboratory personnel. Identify training needs and ensure that each individual performing tests receives the appropriate education for the type and complexity of services performed.
  • Prepare and present technical reports on lab activity and effectiveness.

Requirements


  • Meet the standards for Technical Supervisor of a high complexity CLIA laboratory:
    •  California licensed MD/DO/DPM or PhD certified in clinical pathology with a minimum of 1 year training or experience in high complexity testing; or
    •  MS in lab science with 2 years training or experience in high complexity testing; or
    •  BS in lab science with 4 years training or experience in high complexity testing.
  • Experience working in a high complexity laboratory developing or performing a broad array of assays.
  • Experience managing clinical laboratory personnel with proven track record of exceeding quality expectations.
  • Experience establishing new laboratories, or sections of laboratories, is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with public health laboratory laws and regulations.
  • Proven ability to help scale clinical laboratories in a dynamic environment while maintaining excellence in performance at every level.
