Theranos is looking for an experienced machinist to staff and run its prototype machine shop. The machinist’s primary responsibility will be to provide rapid turn of prototype components. Additionally, the machinist will support tooling and production component fabrication. Other duties necessary to support machine shop function will be required, such as performing maintenance on machines.

The machinist will use manual and CNC machine tools to support all component fabrication needs. The machinist must be capable of set up and operation of CNC machine tools. The ability to function in a fast paced startup environment is essential.

• 5 yrs experience with set up and operation of CNC vertical machining centers, 3 and 4 axis.
• Capable of generating tool paths from Solidworks files using CAM software, such as Surfcam or Mastercam.
• Capable of reading and understanding engineering documents.
• Experience with commonly machined materials.
• Comfortable with high precision, complex and challenging components.
• Experience sourcing tools and machines.
• A willingness to learn new equipment.
• Comfortable working with engineers to improve designs and manfucaturability of components.
• Capable of effectively communicating with peers, management and other internal departments.
• Capable of managing work time and be self-directed in order to meet production needs/schedules.

• Experience with set up and operation of 5 axis machining centers.
• Experience with high speed machining.
• Experience with fabrication of tooling for injection molded components.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 drawing standards.
